There’s a new top dog in town.Patrick Bertoletti was crowned king of the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contest in Coney Island on Thursday.The 39-year-old from Illinois managed to wolf down an impressive 58 franks and buns in 10 minutes as the sun beat down on the iconic Nathan’s flagship restaurant for the annual July 4th competition.He out-ate Geoffrey Esper, 49, of Massachusetts who finished second with 53 dogs.Australian James Webb, 35, came in third after chowing down on 52 wieners.Bertoletti, a five-time Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest participant, chewed down 33.5 dogs when he last competed in the Brooklyn event in 2022.His previous personal best was 55 hot dogs and buns.Bertoletti’s feat marks the first time in 16 years that someone other than Joey Chestnut, the world’s top competitive eater, has taken the title.
