Wrong-way driver kills motorist in fiery early morning crash on NYs Hutchinson River Parkway: Engulfed in flames

A motorist was killed early Sunday when a wrong-way driver slammed into his car on the Hutchinson River Parkway in Westchester County — leaving the victim’s car a raging inferno, cops said.Westchester County police said they responded to several 911 calls around 5:08 a.m.reporting a car that had been traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the roadway had collided with another vehicle, about half a mile south of King Street in the village fo Rye Brook.Police rushed to the scene to find one of the cars “fully engulfed in flames.” The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and has not yet been identified.The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was removed from his car and rushed by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla where he’s currently being treated, though no information was immediately available about the severity of his injuries.Patrol officers, the Accident Investigation Team and detectives from WCPD’s General Investigations Unit are still looking into the cause of the crash, the department said in a Facebook post late Sunday morning.As of noon, traffic was still being diverted off the northbound Hutchinson River Parkway at its Ridge Street exit.
