Saying goodbye to beloved author Nelson DeMille who vowed to always highlight patriots

Nelson DeMille. We just lost one of our world’s favorite authors. He and I spoke often.

Not long back we were on the radio together. He constantly wrote about mysteries and danger. In 2017’s “The Cuban Affair” thriller his lead character was a US army vet.

“Always highlight patriots,” he told me.1990, his “The Gold Coast” best seller highlighted a “perfect Al Pacino type.” But movie got shelved. Then came, “The General’s Daughter.” High-stakes military investigator.

So who played him in the film? John Travolta.During our pandemic he told me, “Any author thinking of writing a novel on this coronavirus should rethink.”In later years even his back list increased. His last book “Blood Lines,” dealing with Islamic terrorism, was as usual a best seller.Nelson himself had spent time in an Arab community.

To keep his characters and plot lines and sanity straight he used an ordinary blackboard.A mutual friend described him as “a mensch.” He had great humor.I loved Nelson DeMille. Nice little tales around.

Like a documentary on naked women.Sweet.

“Body Parts” — cranked out years ago — has Rose McGowan, Rosanna Arquette, Jane Fonda shooting nude scenes.Lately the thing’s streaming on Starz.Fonda: “I was drunk filming ‘Barbarella.’ My husband, director Roger Vadim, said he’d protect me.

Cover my nudity.Didn’t happen.

For some reason saying ‘no’ would’ve made me more vulnerable than being naked.”Also you could catch a cold. Colin Farrell waddles, snarls and terrorizes Gotham as “The Penguin.” Other baddies helped his good performance — only he didn’t realize it.Someone referenced Dustin Hoffman but, he says, “I never thought of that Ratso Rizzo portrayal.” Subscribe to our daily Post Opinion newsletter!
