Brian Burns added to injury report in potential Giants worry

The Giants still are awaiting the first impact performance from Brian Burns, but the $141 million edge rusher isn’t fully healthy entering Sunday’s game against the Browns.Burns was a late addition to the Giants’ injury report Friday, and he’s been listed as questionable for the game in Cleveland with a groin injury.Burns, who was acquired from the Panthers in March, has totaled seven tackles with zero sacks during the Giants’ 0-2 start. He averaged 9.5 sacks over the previous four seasons in Carolina.Kayvon Thibodeaux (shoulder) was limited in practice earlier this week, but he was not listed on the injury report and is expected to play against the Browns.Darius Slayton said he talked to Malik Nabers after last week’s game, in which the rookie had a key drop late in the loss to the Commanders.

Nabers had 10 receptions in the game for 127 yards, including his first NFL touchdown.“You’re going to drop the ball. He’ll drop another one this year at some point,” Slayton said.

“S–t, I dropped a ball on the two-point conversion, so I definitely was in no position to tell him you gotta catch the ball.“I try to impart wisdom to him.I know in that moment it can feel like it’ll last forever, but it’s a long season, and that’s all I really told him.

You’re going to have a chance to make a lot of plays here, so let that go.”Brian Daboll called Slayton “a good leader in that room,” and said that Daniel Jones “has a lot of confidence” in the six-year veteran.“It’s a really close-knit group. He’s been productive here for a while, Slay has,” Daboll said.

“He’s been around. He’s been around the block around here, understands things, is a confident player, good leadership, a veteran that’s done it for a while and been productive doing it.” Sign up for Inside the Giants by Paul Schwartz, a weekly Sports+ exclusive.
