Ryan Wesley Routh was charged by prosecutors on Tuesday with attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate after the alleged gunman staked out former president Donald Trump’s Florida golf course earlier this month, according to a report.Routh, 58, was hit with the new charge after he was previously slapped with more minor weapons charges, CNN reported.He appeared in court on Monday where a judge decided to keep him behind bars as prosecutors made clear they intended to charge him with the attempted assassination.Routh allegedly camped out in a snipers nest on the perimeter of Trump’s West Palm Beach golf club for nearly 12 hours on Sept.15 before the Secret Service spotted him, leading an agent to open fire on the suspected gunman.Routh fled from the scene, but was quickly captured by authorities on a highway.It was the second attempt on Trump’s life after Thomas Matthew Crooks shot at the 45th president during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania in July.The GOP nominee is looking to retake the White House this November.This is a breaking story.
