Top NYC schools deputy Melissa Aviles-Ramos will take over as schools chancellor for outgoing leader David Banks, Mayor Eric Adams announced Wednesday.Aviles-Ramos, who is currently the deputy chancellor for family and community engagement and external affairs, will step into the role at the end of the year when Banks is set to retire.“Melissa is a veteran of New York City Public Schools and a lifelong educator.She brings a wealth of experience fostering community engagement and supporting families to her new role, serving in numerous roles in our public school system, and I believe she is the right woman for the moment,” Adams said.Aviles-Ramos started in NYC schools back in 2007 but stepped away from the city’s education system to join Monroe College earlier this year.

She returned to the DOE in July after a short stint at the college.News of Banks’ retirement comes just weeks after his home was raided by the feds and agents seized his phones.His youngest brother Terrance Banks is allegedly under investigation for trying to lobby David Banks for city contracts....
