Jets Jamien Sherwood likely to start again in place of injured C.J. Mosley

It appears that Jamien Sherwood is going to start at inside linebacker again this week as C.J.Mosley recovers from the toe injury he suffered two weeks ago.Sherwood started last week against the Patriots with Mosley sidelined, and Mosley is again doubtful to play this week vs.

the Broncos.Sherwood, who is in his fourth season with the Jets, has played well in Mosley’s absence and is turning into a nice story of development for the team.“He’s done a great job, he really has,” defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich said.

“Jamien’s another one of those guys who, you guys know that have been around him, his approach on a daily basis is unmatched as far as how hard he works at this thing.He’s a guy that obviously was a converted safety when he got to us, very unfamiliar with the linebacker position.“Everything was brand new to him, but it has gotten to that place where the game is really starting to slow down for him.

He’s getting really comfortable at the position, and he’s got some innate leadership that’s really cool to see.He gets this opportunity to stand in front of the group and be the signal-caller.

He’s embracing it, and he’s doing a great job of it.”The Jets drafted Sherwood in the fifth round in 2021.As Ulbrich mentioned, Sherwood was a safety at Auburn.

The Jets decided to convert him to linebacker.Sherwood struggled early in his rookie season when Mosley was injured, then an Achilles tear ended his rookie season early.Since then, Sherwood has been a role player, playing mainly on special teams and when the defense goes to three linebackers.Sherwood’s background at safety makes him strong in pass coverage.“I think the guys that have been back there and have been in all that space, that big space, it definitely helps him, especially for a team like us that runs so much zone,” Ulbrich said.
