Phillies answer Mets ninth-inning magic with Nick Castellanos walk-off to tie NLDS

The Mets found more ninth-inning magic, but so did the Phillies.Nick Castellanos hit a walk-off single to hand the Mets a gut-punch of a Game 2 loss, 7-6, evening up this NLDS 1-1.Mark Vientos hit a game-tying two-run home run in the ninth inning, his second two-run blast of the game, off of Matt Strahm to tie the game 6-6.But Castellanos got to Tylor Megill in the ninth after walks to Trea Turner and Bryce Harper.The Mets twice blew leads, first when Luis Severino coughed up a three-run lead in the sixth and again when Edwin Diaz blew a one-run lead in the eighth.When the Phillies put two runners on with two outs down 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh and Kyle Schwarber coming to the plate, the Mets pulled Jose Butto for Diaz, who struck Schwarber out to get out of the jam.But Diaz unraveled in the eighth, surrendering a one-out walk to Bryce Harper and a single to Nick Castellanos before Bryson Stott’s triple put Philly up 5-4.Diaz was then pulled for Tylor Megill, who allowed the inherited runner to score on a fielder’s choice.Severino had shut the Phillies down for 5 2/3 innings as the Mets led 3-0, but after a Trea Turner single, Bryce Harper gave the Phillies life with a mammoth two-run homer to center, and Nick Castellanos made it back-to-back blasts with a solo shot to tie the game.Severino came out after six innings, having allowed six hits and no walks while striking out seven.Brandon Nimmo immediately answered with a solo home run in the seventh, but the lead was short-lived.Vientos opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the third, and Pete Alonso’s opposite-field solo homer extended the Mets’ lead in the top of the sixth....
