Mets leave Adam Ottavino off NLCS roster as Jeff McNeil returns from injury

LOS ANGELES — Adam Ottavino is the odd man out.The Mets’ NLCS roster has added Jeff McNeil after a two-game rehab stint in the Arizona Fall League and has retained Luisangel Acuna, kept because of his late-game defense and baserunning.It was Ottavino who has lost his spot, the Mets deciding to drop down to 12 pitchers and deciding Danny Young is more valuable than Ottavino.Ottavino had not pitched in the postseason, having fallen down the depth charts amid late-season struggles but still a leader in the bullpen.Young also has not pitched in October, but he is the Mets’ only true traditional lefty reliever.

They also carry David Peterson, who is more of a bulk option.McNeil has made it all the way back after breaking his wrist on a hit by pitch on Sept.6.

The Mets then proclaimed him out for the regular season but remained hopeful about the postseason, and this run has given McNeil enough time to recover....
