Patriots Christian Barmore takes back racism claims in remorseful apology to police

Patriots defensive lineman Christian Barmore apologized to Providence police Saturday after accusing officers of racism in a since-deleted post on X following a traffic stop earlier in the week.“A few days have gone by since the incident with the Providence police and I have had a chance to deeply reflect on my behavior,” Barmore wrote on X.“I want everyone to know that I’m sorry and I take full accountability for my actions.

I apologize to the Providence Police Department, my teammates, and my family.“My mother was a police officer and I understand the pressures related to their job.Which I didn’t make any easier by reacting in the manner that I did.” Barmore, who wasn’t arrested during the traffic stop, was pulled over around 1 a.m.

on Wednesday and reportedly received citations for an expired registration, an unregistered vehicle and a “display of plates penalty,” according to Boston 25.But he allegedly reacted with “attitude” and had a “slow roll” before officers reached his vehicle, according to Boston 25.The latter reaction made the officers allegedly think that he could be hiding “contraband or weapons before the officers come to the window,” the outlet reported.According to body cam footage, Barmore threatened to sue the police officers after being told that he needed to leave the vehicle and that they would tow his car, daring them to “f–king touch me”“I am using this as an opportunity to learn and do better.I have already met with members of the Providence Police Department to apologize in person.
