Frozen waffle recall expanded to include hundreds of breakfast products over listeria risk

A major food processing company expanded its recall of frozen waffle products to include hundreds of breakfast foods found in the supermarket freezer aisle because of listeria risks.TreeHouse Foods, a manufacturer based in Oak Brook, Ill., recalled “all products manufactured at one facility and still within their shelf-life,” according to a press release on Tuesday.The approximately 200 newly recalled breakfast items, under brands like Best Choice and Krusteaz, are sold at major supermarkets including Albertson’s, Aldi, Kroger, Publix, Target, Trader Joe’s, Walmart and Wegmans.There are no known illnesses linked to the recalled products, TreeHouse Foods.The recalled frozen foods – including toaster waffles, Belgian waffles and pancakes – were distributed throughout the United States and Canada, the company added.TreeHouse Foods initially recalled some frozen waffle products on Friday.The recall was expanded “based on additional testing at the manufacturing facility,” the company said.Consumers may have some of the products sitting in their freezers.The recalled products have a “Best By Date” of October 1, 2024 through October 11, 2025.Food products usually have barcodes on their packaging that indicate when they were produced and on which factory line the food was produced.

TreeHouse Foods recommends customers check their freezers for frozen breakfast products and search for the affected product codes listed on their website.Listeria is a serious infection, posing the largest risk to older adults, immunodeficient people and pregnant women, according to the United States Department of Agriculture.It can cause fever, aches, headaches, stiffness, confusion, loss of balance, convulsions and diarrhea, the agency said.The bacteria has an incubation period of three to 70 days, according to experts.The waffle recall comes weeks after BrucePac, a major meatpacker, recalled nearly 12 million pounds of meat – some of which was sent to New York school...
