Draymond Green gets first tech of season, has outburst in Warriors opener

Draymond Green just couldn’t help himself.The Warriors forward got his first technical foul of the 2024-25 season in Golden State’s season-opening win against the Trail Blazers on Wednesday.

Green, who was suspended twice last season for scuffles on the court, was called for a tech after jawing at the referee for a foul call in the second quarter of the 139-104 win.Green dove for a loose ball and was called for a foul on Trail Blazers forward Deni Avdija with less than three minutes to play in the first half and the Warriors leading Portland, 51-43.He appeared confused by the call and began chirping at referees and walking after an official.“How?” he asked repeatedly.

The four-time NBA champ kept a conversation going with official Tre Maddox, while Warriors star Steph Curry stood behind him.Golden State coach Steve Kerr quickly called a time out and tried to get Green to calm down.

“He’s in midseason form,” one of the broadcasters said.“… And we talked about the Warriors’ margin, it’s so slim.

Right now, they can’t win enough games this year without Draymond green or Steph Curry.” There was no slim margin on this night against a rebuilding Blazers team.The Warriors set a franchise record with the 35-point win signifying the largest margin of victory for a season opener in franchise history.Green finished with eight points, six rebounds and three assists in 20 minutes of action.The Warriors play the Jazz at Delta Center in Salt Lake City on Friday.
