Yankees lose Game 1 of World Series on walkoff grand slam

The Yankees let Game 1 of the World Series slip away in painful fashion.The Dodgers rallied in the tenth inning for a 6-3 win when Freddie Freeman delivered a walkoff grand slam off Nestor Cortes.The Yankees had taken a lead in the top of the 10th when Anthony Volpe’s fielder’s choice scored Jazz Chisholm — who had stole second and third base after hitting a single.With the Yankees leading 2-1, Mookie Betts drove in Shohei Ohtani — who had reached with a double and advanced to third base after an error by Gleyber Torres — with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game 2-2.Giancarlo Stanton’s two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning had given the Yankees a 2-1 lead.Gerrit Cole was strong for the Yankees, giving up just one run in six innings pitched with four strikeouts.Will Smith gave the Dodgers a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly before Stanton’s towering blast in the next frame.With two outs in the top of the ninth inning, Gleyber Torres hit a deep fly that appeared as if it would hit off the left-field wall.

But a fan interfered and caught the ball, resulting in a ground rule double.Game 2 is set for Saturday night back at Dodger Stadium....
