At least she ate well.An Idaho woman was caught stealing over $170,000 from her employer — and blew most of it ordering food from delivery apps.Charlene Smith, formerly an office manager for a now-defunct tractor supply company out of Nampa, was caught embezzling the six-figure sum from 2021 to 2022 before the company closed its doors around 2023, the Idaho Tax Commission found.Smith, of Idaho City, spent much of the cash on DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Facebook Pay.She also wrote herself checks from company funds, and deposited cash into a personal account on Cash App.Her scheme was uncovered after she failed to report the exorbitant income on her 2021 tax filings, according to the Tax Commission.Smith was sentenced to 19 years of supervised probation last week, and ordered to pay more than $170,000 in restitution to her old employer.She could face time behind bars if she fails to meet the conditions of her probation.“Deliberately providing false information on a tax return is fraud,” Tax Commission Chairman Jeff McCray said in a statement.“Taxpayers must accurately report income from all sources on their tax returns.”...
