Coli-impacted nugget — with a supersized number of states from Alaska to Connecticut, 21 in total, clucking over the classic meal.Chick-fil-A came in second as 19 states — primarily in the South, alongside outliers like California and Pennsylvania — voted it to be their favorite.Taking third, and regionally first in New York and New Jersey, was Wendy’s.Only two states west of Michigan — Idaho and Oregon — agreed.

Report authors said Empire State eaters acted “perhaps surprisingly.” Burger King, whose nuggets are the forgotten step-child of fast food, was crowned best only in Kansas and Vermont.Popeyes scored well in its home territory of Louisana and Kentucky Fried Chicken took its namesake state as well.In North Carolina, where folks consume an average 14.9 nuggets per serving — the national average is 12.9 — local chain Cook Out was declared to be hoot of the coop.Fans of the regional staple, which first opened in the Tar Heel State city of Greensboro in 1989, can pair their meals with hush puppies and classic milkshakes.
