Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni might have accidentally disclosed an injury for quarterback Jalen Hurts during his press conference on Friday.Hurts missed practice Wednesday for what was deemed to be rest, and Sirianni was asked about that on Friday.“Yeah, you know, he was on the injury report dealing with the ankle, and we’re just making sure we’re cautious with everything,” Sirianni said.Several reporters chimed in that Hurts was not actually on the injury report, as Sirianni looked towards an Eagles PR staffer to the side of the podium.“It was rest,” the PR staffer said.Sirianni quickly corrected himself: “It was rest, yeah, sorry.”A reporter asked the coach if Hurts was dealing with an ankle problem and Sirianni smiled and shook his head.Fudging the injury report is something that in theory should be a major concern for the NFL given how much money is at stake between people’s jobs around the league and wagers amongst fans, but in reality it is difficult for the NFL to prove and there are hardly if ever serious consequences for teams that do it.
Hurts has previously had ankle issues, as he underwent surgery during the 2023 offseason to remove “hardware” in his ankle that had been put in after an injury he sustained while playing for the University of Alabama in 2018.After a 2-2 start, the Eagles have won four games in a row as they head to Dallas for an NFC East rivalry matchup this Sunday afternoon.
The Cowboys are expected to be without star quarterback Dak Prescott, who sustained a hamstring injury during last Sunday’s loss to the Falcons.Longtime backup Cooper Rush is expected to get the nod at starting quarterback for Dallas. The Eagles are currently a half-game behind the 7-2 Commanders for the top spot in the NFC East.
