Sweetgreen will now lettuce fully indulge ourselves. The healthy salad chain has tossed a classic fast-food staple into the mix joining in a potential bid to capitalize on the growing “girl dinner” trend.
Customers at select stores can now add a side of fries to their order, allowing them to get one step closer to creating the perfect “it” meal. The announcement comes after The Post reported on a hot female-driven dinner craze consisting of three simple items: a salad, a side of fries and a martini.
But while liquor certainly won’t be on any Sweetgreen menus, the fry addition is revolutionary for a franchise that’s long prided itself on being a healthy, calorie-conscious alternative to fast-food options.“We want to disrupt fast food,” CEO and co-founder Jonathan Neman said according to Restaurant Business.
“We want to give you those things that you want, that you’re used to eating—things like fries—and do it in a Sweetgreen way, in a way that we kind of think about as a permissible indulgence.”Sweetgreen’s air-fried ripple fries are cooked in avocado oil with a side of pickle ketchup and garlic aioli sauce. They’re listed at 240 calories.
Restaurants in Los Angeles are now offering the tasty side to eager customers, many of whom have learned of the new item thanks to the social media buzz. The California-based food chain is expected to add the fries to its 235 menus across the US next year.
The avocado oil fries come as a growing number of Americans are avoiding seed oils to improve their health and save the planet.“We see a big opportunity — call it outside the bowl — around things like sides, beverages, and desserts,” Neman said, Nation’s Restaurant News reported.
As such, Sweetgreen has also announced plans to begin offering wraps and desserts and open about 40 new restaurants in the new year.If only they added martinis to the menu — now that’s a real “girl dinner.” ...
