The Issue: New York getting rid of the Regents exams as a graduation requirement by fall 2027.The demise of the New York Regents exams and the Regents diploma is, unfortunately, a sign of the educational times we live in (“Regents Exams, RIP,” Editorial, Nov.11).Tests like the Regents provide proof that students have mastered the required knowledge and skills of a given curriculum.While our competitors in the global economy place a greater emphasis on student mastery of skills, too many states are dumbing down what is required of their students.
