Kamala Harris still Dems favorite pick for 2028 despite crushing loss to Trump: poll

Most Democrats still want lame-duck Vice President Kamala Harris to be the party’s 2028 presidential nominee — despite her crushing defeat by President-elect Donald Trump this election, a new poll shows.Roughly 41% of likely Democratic voters said they would vote for the Veep to be at the top of the Democratic ticket in four years — while none of her other competitors even hit double digits, according to the Puck News/Echelon Insights survey released Wednesday.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom came in second, but as the pick for just 8% of those polled, while Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro trailed behind him at 7%.Meanwhile, only 6% of voters would pick Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz — Harris’ 2024 running mate, the poll shows.

A mere 4% of pollsters said they’d back New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as the party’s preferred candidate, while Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer got 3%. On the opposite side of the political aisle, 37% of those polled would select Vice President-elect JD Vance as the likely GOP candidate when Trump’s second term is up.

Former Republican presidential candidates, Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy, trailed behind at 9%, according to the poll.Roughly 8% would back Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as the 2028 GOP primary.

The poll was conducted from Nov.14-18 among 1,010 likely voters.

It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. ...
