Rangers calling up Matt Rempe as Chris Kreider deals with injury

The Rangers are searching for answers and turning to a familiar face to help find them.The team announced that Matt Rempe has been called up from the Hartford Wolf Pack and he will be active for Monday’s game against the St.

Louis Blues.His promotion comes while Chris Kreider is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Kreider will be replaced in the lineup by Brett Berard.The Blueshirts, 12-6-1, have lost two straight to the Flames and Oilers to conclude their recent four-game road trip.Rempe, 22, was sent down earlier this month, but his return could be their answer to forecheck problems as bigger, stronger teams have taken advantage of the Rangers.

The fan-favorite defenseman played in 10 games for Hartford, scoring twice and grabbing an assist while looking to gain confidence as something other than an enforcer.He looked particularly strong at Hartford when killing penalties, helping kill four straight power plays in a Nov.16 game against the Bruins’ AHL affiliate.

The 6-foot-9 behemoth became a fan favorite last season for his willingness to scuffle with opposing teams whenever called upon.Rempe dished out and took some brutal beatings during the 2023 stretch run to the Eastern Conference Finals for the Blueshirts.

It is not yet clear how Rempe will be utilized, but coach Peter Laviolette confirmed he will play Monday....
