A grandfather died in a fall from an open window following a burglary early Saturday, but mystery remains over how he ultimately ended up on scaffolding affixed to a Washington Heights apartment building.Loved ones of Jacinto Remigio remembered the 73-year-old as a hardworking man two days after he fell to his death in the aftermath of the home invasion in which three suspects tied up his 40-year-old son while Remigio was walking his dog, law enforcement sources said. When he returned home, the burglars already fled and cops were on the scene before he fell out the open window that one of the perps used to break into the sixth-floor apartment, according to sources.“I have no idea why this transpired,” said Remigio’s son Geurry Remigio, who was home during the burglary.“I hope that his soul is at peace and we’re good, honest, hard working people.”Authorities suspect Remigio went to shut the window that was left open by the thieves before accidentally falling out and hitting the scaffolding, sources said.
Investigators believe he might have been intoxicated at the time of the fall.During the home invasion, the trio of burglars, all men, stole a golden chain worth around $8,000 and swiped about $200 in cash.Geurry Remigio, who works as a registered nurse, declined to comment on the home invasion and tragic aftermath, pointing to an ongoing police probe.“I have no idea why it happened, we’re honest, hard-working people,” he said of the burglary.“I live a very simple and honest life so I have no idea why this transpired.”He stressed his father will be missed by family and community members.“He was a simple man, just come home, spend time with his family, he was a grandfather and he lived a simple life,” he said.
“There isn’t much to say.He was a figure in the community, he knew a lot of people.”...
