A violent perp was caught on camera savagely beating a Massachusetts woman who was watering her plants — because she didn’t say “good morning” to him.Ian Atkinson, 34, was found guilty Monday after he brutally attacked the 59-year-old victim in the front yard of her home in Dorchester in July last year, prosecutors said.“When people say good morning to you, you should say hi, you crazy b—-h,” Atkinson told the victim as he walked by her as she was out watering her garden.Atkinson quickly erupted when the victim pulled out her cellphone to start recording him, prosecutors said.A nearby surveillance camera captured the brute repeatedly slugging the woman in the face before violently throwing her against a fence.Atkinson only stopped the attack when the victim bit him, according to prosecutors. He then jumped in his nearby SUV and almost struck her with it as he fled.
The victim, who was bleeding profusely from her nose when cops arrived, was treated in a hospital for a broken nose, contusions to her head and face and a broken blood vessel in her left eye.Atkinson, who was wearing a GPS monitoring device at the time of the attack, was arrested just days later after the victim gave cops his license plate number.“For this victim, a pleasant summer morning descended into a violent and cruel ordeal for the most inexplicable of reasons,” Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said.“But, even as she was being attacked, she had the presence of mind to record video, and that decision, along with her brave testimony, provided enough evidence for the judge to make his decision.”Atkinson, who waived his right to a jury trial, was convicted of assault and battery and assault with a dangerous weapon. He was sentenced to two years in state prison followed by two years of probation....
