How to see the dazzling northern nights in NYC on Thanksgiving and Black Friday

It’s something “light” for your holiday dinner.A dazzling aurora borealis display is expected to illuminate the Big Apple’s sky on Thanksgiving and Black Friday — giving fresh holiday lights spectacles a run for their money.Stargazers can likely behold the breathtaking northern lights in the Empire State — and as far west as Idaho — beginning after 5 p.m.on Thursday and Friday, according to a forecast from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.The celestial showcase of glowing green and red hues can also be seen in parts of the northern Midwest along with some central US states, experts said.The northern lights are generally most visible in areas with clear weather, within an hour or two of midnight, and as far from urban light pollution as possible.The colorful Turkey Day treat comes thanks to geomagnetic storm caused by part of the sun erupting into space.During the solar storm, particles fly into the Earth’s magnetic field, causing colorful auroras to form as they interact with atmospheric gases.Cities including Annapolis, Maryland, Lincoln, Nebraska and Cheyenne, Wyoming are also expected to have a good view lights on Thursday and Friday, according to the University of Alaska at Fairbanks Geophysical Institute.“If you are in the right place, these aurora can be quite pleasing to look at,” NOAA said.The northern lights were also visible in some parts of New York in early October....
