Oliver Hudson reveals why he and sister Kate Hudson rejected Kurt Russells offer to adopt them

Kate Hudson and her brother, Oliver Hudson, had no interest in having Kurt Russell adopt them when they were kids.During an episode of their “Sibling Revelry” podcast, Oliver revealed that Russell had offered to legally adopt them when he started dating their mother, Goldie Hawn, back in the 1980s.“Kurt came into my life when I was six, five or six, kind of the same, and essentially he raised me,” Oliver said during the episode.The “Rules of Engagement” actor, 48, hosted the episode solo alongside guests Tish Cyrus-Purcell and Brandi Cyrus — who was born during her mom’s first marriage to drummer Baxter Helson and later adopted by Billy Ray Cyrus when they tied the knot.During the conversation, Oliver revealed that when Russell entered his life at a young age, the star quickly stepped into the father role and was open to making it official on paper.“There was a moment when he asked us, myself and Kate, if we wanted to be adopted and we said ‘no,'” Oliver shared.“And not that we were, you know, very aware of what it even f–king meant we were six and however old, or twelve, I don’t even remember the age but we just said ‘we don’t need it.The love is right there,’” Hudson recalled.The absence of their biological father left a gap in Oliver’s life because he was only “around for a little bit, then he bailed,” according to the actor.He added that after a lot of work, he finally has a good relationship with his biological father.“There was always, not something missing but there was always sort of like, ‘wow but there’s that other side,’” he explained.“When you don’t have your biological around, it’s hard to replace that no matter what.”Still, Oliver considered Russell his father and even still calls him “pa.” “I’m the man in am today because of him,” he said.During the episode, Miley Cyrus’ half sister said she wanted to be adopted by the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer so she could have the same la...
