Adams sits down with Trumps border czar pick Tom Homan to talk migrant crisis

Mayor Eric Adams welcomed Donald Trump’s incoming “border czar” at Gracie Mansion for a highly anticipated face-to-face Thursday over the president-elect’s migrant deportation plans.Soon-to-be czar Tom Homan strolled into the mayoral mansion ahead of the planned 1 p.m.meeting, where Adams is expected to discuss ways his administration can work with the Trump White House to boot migrant criminals from New York City.

Adams has adopted an increasingly hardline stance on the city’s sanctuary status in the weeks after Trump’s election, such as signaling his openness to deporting migrants after they’ve been charged with crime, but before they’ve been convicted and have served their time.“Cancel me, because I’m going to protect the people of this city,” he defiantly declared.Adams has been eyeing an executive order that could chip away at the city’s sanctuary city status, sources have told The Post. The sit-down also comes as Homan vowed to not let cities’ sanctuary status get in the way of Trump’s promised mass deportations — a promise coupled with a threat to withhold federal funding if they don’t cooperate. The specter of mass deportations has caused unease for many in New York City, a metropolis historically defined by its openness to immigrants.Adams has said he would oppose deportations of hardworking undocumented New Yorkers, but indicated his goodwill doesn’t extend to alleged criminals.Hizzoner’s increasing warmness with Trump’s policies prompted city Comptroller Brad Lander, a potential mayoral challenger, to blast Adams.“Eric Adams is so focused on cozying up to Trump that he is willing to deny people due process and put the safety of families at risk,” Lander said in a statement.“This open-armed embrace of Trump’s xenophobic policies is a betrayal of everyone who calls New York City home.”Additional reporting by Aneeta Bhole...
