Former President Jimmy Carter is joining the growing list of Democrats skipping President-Elect Donald Trump’s inauguration next month. But the decision is far from political — the 100-year-old’s health is too fragile to risk sending him to the massive ceremony, which is traditionally held outside in frigid temperatures, a spokesperson for the Carter Center told The Post.“President Carter has been in hospice care for nearly two years. As you can imagine, he no longer makes public appearances,” the spokesperson told The Post.If Carter were healthier, he would be in attendance, the spokesperson told USA Today. This will mark the second inauguration Carter has missed since his own turn at the presidential helm.
He and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter sat out when President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were sworn in.The Carters both moved into hospice in 2023.Rosalynn died in November 2023 at the age of 96.Plenty of other political leaders, however, are purposefully skipping Trump’s second presidential inauguration.
At least 18 Democrats are planning to boycott the ceremony including New York Dems Reps.José Serrano, Nydia Velazquez, Adriano Espaillat, Jerrold Nadler and Yvette Clarke.Represenatives for Trump did not return The Post’s request for comment....
