A 111-year-old Gilded Age mansion in Los Angeles — with holy ties and, of course, a Hollywood history — is on the market for $3.99 million. The red-brick Mediterranean-style villa at 1130 Westchester Place, in the ritzy neighborhood of Country Club Park, was home to a Catholic convent, the Sisters of Social Service, for more than three decades. It’s also where Kaitlyn Dever’s character, Amy, and Beanie Feldstein’s character, Molly, went to a high school pre-graduation party in the 2019 flick “Booksmart.”Musicians like Norah Jones and Kacey Musgraves have also shot videos at the home, which is also where Ryan Murphy filmed for his “American Horror Story” series. The seller is film producer Jon Shestack, whose credits include “Air Force One,” “The Last Seduction,” and “Dan in Real Life.” Shestack paid $1 million for the home in 2000. “It’s a magical house,” Shestack told Gimme Shelter.
“It’s gracious and friendly, and walking in the door is like rediscovering a part of Los Angeles that is almost gone.”The historic property is known as the Judson C.Rives Mansion.
Rives, born in 1866 in Louisiana, was a lumber mogul. The abode is 7,000 square feet, and comes with six bedrooms and four bathrooms.
It was designed by the architect Alfred Rosenheim. He lived in a larger mansion, that he also designed, right next door.
Details include arches, a wrap terrace, a formal living room, a mahogany-paneled library, a circular breakfast room with original wallpaper murals and a solarium. There are also four fireplaces with marble mantels, high ceilings, crown moldings, hardwood floors and stained-glass windows.
A bifurcated mahogany stairwell leads to the bedrooms upstairs, while a 1,200-square-foot unfinished basement is below.
