Progressives flee X for Bluesky, where they can harass others in peace

In the wake of Donald Trump’s victory last month, much of the Online Left — that is, progressive academics, journalists and influencers — left Elon Musk’s X for the greener pastures of Bluesky.The New York Times’ Kevin Roose celebrated the fact that the upstart social media site had freed him “from Elon Musk, and his tedious quest to turn X into a right-wing echo chamber.”Perhaps most preposterously of all, The Atlantic issued the risible warning that “The Right Has a Bluesky Problem.”But while the Left might extoll Bluesky as a more civilized alternative to X, it turns out that it not only suffers from all of the same maladies, but is emblematic of all of the flaws that set the stage for Trump’s political comeback.Rep.Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) told The Washington Post, “The usability, community, and relative lack of harassment here allow me to be a lot more candid about my work and talk out events and decisions in real time with actual people.”It was a typically oblivious proclamation.Sure, Ocasio-Cortez isn’t being harassed, but that’s because it’s her people doing the harassing.While Bluesky might be a safe space for the congresswoman and her fellow doctrinaire liberals, it’s a veritable cesspool for dissenters.Since he joined the site, left-of-center journalist Jesse Singal has been the subject of unthinkable abuse, including smears, death threats, and attempts to disseminate his home address.His crime?
