Baker Mayfield may have found his Chris Godwin replacement. Rookie wide receiver Jalen McMillan has emerged as a favorite of the Buccaneers quarterback in recent weeks, receiving a total of 13 targets over his past two games and 33 targets over his past six. Mostly playing the slot in Godwin’s place, McMillan has broken out over the last two games, putting up numbers on par with his target share. On Dec.8 against the Raiders, McMillan had four catches for 59 yards – both career-highs. Last week in a 40-17 win over Chargers, he topped those numbers, bringing in five passes for 75 yards. In that game, McMillan had just one fewer snap than Mike Evans and outsnapped veteran wideout Sterling Shepard, 46-30. McMillan has three touchdown catches over that stretch too. Mayfield has been absolutely slinging the ball around, too, averaging 278 passing yards per game over his last four. The Cowboys have been getting lit up when teams decide to throw on them, allowing 7.3 yards per attempt this season, which is the second-most in the NFL. Dallas’ defense is banged up as well, having lost Pro Bowlers Trevon Diggs and DeMarion Overshown for the season, and DeMarcus Lawrence for at least this week.We may be witnessing a classic, late-season breakout for the Washington product. Bet on McMillan to keep this promising stretch alive in Dallas while the Buccaneers make their push for the NFC South crown.
