Meghan Markle has returned to Instagram, and according to a prominent royal commentator, her new social media account needs to be lucrative if she wants to use it to revive her public image. The Duchess of Sussex, 43, kicked off 2025 by launching her own Instagram account with the username @meghan on Wednesday. The “Suits” alum’s first post was filmed by her husband, Prince Harry, 40, in Montecito, California, where the pair reside with their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. In the video, Markle donned an all-white outfit and ran on the beach, writing “2025” in the sand before smiling and running back off camera. And according to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, Markle’s social media comeback is part of her broader plan to control the narrative surrounding her public image, which has taken a tumble in recent years.“She and Harry were forced to stop using their @sussexroyal account,” Fitzwilliams told the Daily Mail.“They had launched it in 2019 and received a million followers in record time.
She shut her personal Instagram account and closed her successful lifestyle blog The Tig before their wedding.”Fitzwilliams claims that Markle’s new personal Instagram account will play a part in promoting her upcoming business ventures, including the impending launch of her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard.“Meghan’s intention in the video is to look relaxed, confident and, above all, symbolize the freedom they claim they have found,” he told the outlet.“At the moment, interest in the Sussex brand remains enormous.”Fitzwilliams also notes that the Sussexes are approaching a make-or-break period in their respective careers as their lucrative deal with Netflix is ending later this year.“If their multimillion-dollar Netflix deal is not extended this year, it would be a disaster for them,” he added.
