It’s a petty start to 2025 in the college football world after the Oregon Ducks were embarrassed by Ohio State, 41-21, on Wednesday in the Rose Bowl, which served as one of the College Football Playoff semifinals.Washington offensive lineman Geirean Hatchett had to make matters just a bit worse as the redshirt senior poked fun at the rival Ducks.
“I was going to talk about New Years resolutions, but I like the way 2025 started knowing Oregon still won’t have a natty,” Hatchett said in a post on X after Oregon’s defeat.Hatchett spent his first two years in Washington before transferring to Oklahoma for the 2024 season, but he will now return to the Huskies after a tough season with the Sooners. He’s now re-joining a longstanding rivalry between two proud programs located in the Pacific Northwest who both have moved to the Big Ten from the Pac-12.Oregon trounced Washington this season en route to a 13-0 start before being embarrassed Wednesday by Ohio State, allowing 34 points before scoring a single point in the poor showing.
The Ducks have still never won a national championship, although they came close a few times, notably behind the mastery of Chip Kelly and, most recently in 2015, behind Heisman quarterback Marcus Mariota.Washington made the national title game last season behind quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who led the Huskies past the Texas Longhorns in the semifinals. The Michigan Wolverines swiftly took care of them, dominating the 2024 national championship game, 34-13.
Oregon will now go back to the drawing board, while Ohio State earned a spot opposite Texas in the College Football Playoff semifinals on Jan.10.
