Aubrey Plazas late husband Jeff Baena honored in Golden Globes 2025 speech

Aubrey Plaza’s peers paid tribute to her late husband, screenwriter Jeff Baena, at the 2025 Golden Globes on Sunday.On Friday, the actress’ husband died at age 47.During the ceremony, hosted by Nikki Glaser and held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, director Brady Corbet mentioned Plaza while accepting his award for “The Brutalist.”At the end of his speech, Corbet said, “Tonight my heart is with Aubrey Plaza and Jeff’s family.”Plaza, 40, and Baena tied the knot in 2021.They had dated for a decade prior to getting married. “The marriage was just like a joke that honestly went too far,” Plaza said during an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show” that same year. The “Legion” actress added, “We got married on a whim.

Literally decided at around 5 p.m.and got married at 8:30.”Baena was found dead by an assistant on Friday morning at his home in the Los Angeles area, TMZ first reported.

Law enforcement reportedly said he died by suicide. Baena was a filmmaker and screenwriter who wrote and directed 2014’s “Life After Beth,” 2017’s “The Little Hours” and 2020’s “Horse Girl.” The “Parks and Recreation” star also previously opened up about balancing her personal and professional relationship with Baena, as the two collaborated on several films together, including “Life After Beth” and “The Little Hours.”“It’s so great, it’s so complicated,” Plaza told Barrymore about working with her husband.“It’s, like, extreme highs and extreme, you know, complications.
