JJ Redick lost his rental home in the devastating Pacific Palisades fire this week.The Lakers head coach confirmed when speaking to reporters on Friday that the property that his family was renting was burned down.Similar to thousands of people in the Los Angeles metro area, Redick’s family was forced to evacuate from their home Tuesday.Redick returned to the Pacific Palisades on Wednesday, only to see the entire neighborhood destroyed from the wildfires.“I was not prepared for what I saw,” Redick said.“It’s complete devastation and destruction.
I had to go kind of a different way to the house, but I went through most of the village and it’s all gone.I don’t think you can ever prepare yourself for something like that. Redick continued by going into detail about the destruction of his home, mentioning specific things that he and his family lost in the fire.“Everything we owned that was of any importance to us, almost 20 years together as a couple, 10 years of parenting, was in that house,” he said.
“There’s certain things that you can’t replace, that will never be replaced.It’s weird s–t, like my son did an art project last year at St.
Ann’s in Brooklyn, it was a charcoal pencil painting of a lighthouse that we had framed above the stairs.You can’t ever replace stuff like that.
Memories, 18 years together now Chelsea and I, there were certain things that were in that house that you can’t replace.The material stuff is whatever.”Despite being visibly upset, Redick then turned onto a positive note, mentioning the support that he and his family has received during this time.“The Palisades community has been so good to us,” Redick said.
“People make up community, and we want to help and rebuild on that.“I don’t want people to feel sorry for me and my family.We’re gonna be alright,” Redick continued.
