Alexander Romanovs offense emerging as Islanders X factor

SALT LAKE CITY — Patrick Roy knows that Alexander Romanov is in his element when he sees the defenseman finishing checks and laying the body. So if it wasn’t already clear by the time Romanov laid out Jonas Rondbjerg with an old-school hip check during the second period of Thursday’s 4-0 win over Vegas that this was his kind of night, well, it was then. On a night when Romanov scored multiple points for just the second time this season, the conversation ended up being about his offense, but the Islanders’ top pair of Romanov and Noah Dobson also put in a shutdown performance.Matched up primarily against the Golden Knights’ top line, which includes Jack Eichel and Mark Stone, the two allowed all of one high-danger chance all night. “Personally, [coach Patrick Roy] told me that I can go, I can join the rush,” Romanov said.
