Antonio Cromartie Jr., son of former Jets corner, commits to Florida State

The son of former Jets corner Antonio Cromartie is following in his father’s footsteps. Antonio Cromartie Jr.committed to Florida State University on Monday after making the trip to Tallahassee the day before to visit the school. The younger Cromartie received his offer from FSU on Christmas Day and told reporters after his visit over the weekend that he wanted to make his decision by Monday. Cromartie Jr.

seemed to be won over by his conversation with head coach Mike Norvell and defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain. “Coach Norvell is building something special here and I want to be a part of it,” Cromartie Jr.told Warchant.com.

“FSU is also the real ‘DBU’ and I want to continue the tradition of great defensive backs that have come through this program.”Cromartie Jr., a three-star defensive back out of Georgia, said Surtain had told him they didn’t offer him, just because of his name. “They offered me expecting me to make an impact on the field for them and that they believe in my skills to do that,” he said. The young corner called FSU his “dream school” before his visit and explained how the school “holds a special place in my heart.”“Been waiting for this one for a long time and now it’s finally here,” he said. Cromartie Jr.helped lead Carrollton High School to the 6A Georgia state title game and finished his senior season with 85 tackles, four forced fumbles, four pass breakups and an interception. The elder Cromartie played 11 years in the NFL, five of which were spent with the Jets from 2010 to 2013 and 2015.He was a four-time NFL Pro Bowler during his career and was the NFL interceptions leader in 2007. Prior to playing in the NFL, Cromartie played college football for Florida State University. ...
