A new NFL head coaching job opened up this week, and thus, another opportunity presented itself to Robert Saleh. The Cowboys are expected to interview the former Jets coach, according to NFL Network, their first interview request since parting ways with Mike McCarthy on Monday.Dallas is the third team to request a head coaching interview with Saleh after the Jaguars and Raiders. After contract negotiations broke down between McCarthy and the Cowboys, owner Jerry Jones is said to be on a “solo mission” to find the team’s next coach.Jones, 82, has already had a phone conversation with Deion Sanders regarding the role, while Jason Witten was also named a possible replacement, according to ESPN.The 45-year-old previously was the defensive coordinator for the 49ers and also spent time as the linebackers coach for the Jaguars. He has already interviewed with the Raiders and is viewed as a top candidate for the Jaguars job.Should he not land a head coaching role, it appears likely he will end up back in San Francisco as their defensive coordinator.Dallas could also look to go the higher-profile route, bringing in a veteran Super Bowl-winner like Pete Carroll or trying for a trade for Mike Tomlin in an effort to win the offseason headlines. The Cowboys went 7-10 in 2024 and closed the season strong after they struggled to make up for the loss of Dak Prescott, who missed most of the year due to a torn hamstring.America’s Team has had nearly no postseason success in recent seasons, not getting past the divisional round of the playoffs since they won the Super Bowl in 1995.
