Quinn Ewers is passing up on some big bucks to enter the 2025 NFL Draft. The now former Texas quarterback turned down an $8 million NIL offer to transfer to another school to play his final season of NCAA eligibility, 247Sports reported on Thursday. The report did not name which school made the offer. The reasoning behind the decision stems from his desire to leave Texas in a good place and his feeling that he’s ready to take the next step and turn pro. 247Sports reported that NFL scouts had told the outlet they projected that Ewers would be taken somewhere between the late first round to early in the third round.“Texas was the only place he wanted to play college football,” Ewers’ high school coach Riley Dodge told the outlet.“He wanted to leave Texas in good standing.”Ewers completed 293 passes in his final season with the Longhorns for 3,472 yards and 31 touchdowns. He departs Texas as the school’s fourth-winningest quarterback all-time with 27 win, tying Sam Ehlinger. He trails only Colt McCoy, Vince Young and Bobby Layne. Ewers announced that he would be declaring for the draft on Wednesday and hinted that he would not be returning to Texas next season when he spoke with ESPN ahead of the Cotton Bowl. The QB also expressed that he wanted his legacy at Texas to be that of an outstanding teammate. “A great teammate that pushed his teammates to be the best that they could be, but pushed himself to be the best that he could be, so he’s able to say things like that.
And, you know, one of the best to ever do it here,” he said. Despite the noble reasoning behind his decision to declare for the draft, he has caught flack for the decision. College football analyst and former Florida State quarterback Danny Kanell called the move the “worst financial decision.” “If Quinn Ewers turned down $8 million to play college football in 2025 it would go down as the worst financial decision we’ve seen since Ronald Wayne left Apple as a cofound...
