Of course Mayor Eric Adams was right to meet with President-elect Donald Trump on Friday: New York City needs every friend it can get in Washington, and Queens’ most famous native son can be a very good friend indeed.That Adams’ trip to Florida upset his lefty critics is just icing on the cake.Indeed, having Trump as any kind of ally can only help Adams help the city, when the state Legislature is only interested in milking Gotham for tax and toll money, and torturing its citizens by empowering criminals and keeping madmen on our streets.City Hall explained the mayor’s agenda: “a productive conversation with the incoming president on how we can move our city and country forward.”Yes, it’s good for Trump and Republicans to have the friendship of a black mayor voted for by working people — and let’s not forget, the working class has shifted massively toward the GOP in the Trump era, especially in the last election and nowhere more so than in New York.Adams’ progressive rivals will surely snipe; once again, their ideology is getting in the way of what’s best for the regular New Yorkers they (only) pretend to care so much about.Fact is, Gotham is lucky Trump wants to help New York — his longtime home, the town where he rose to fame and fortune.Even if it’s also a stronghold of the progressive resistance, which spent much of the last four years waging shameless lawfare against him.

Heck, state Attorney General Tish James and Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg have given Trump plenty of reason to resent New York; offering the incoming president at least one friendly face in high office here should be a complete no-brainer.Unlike the lefty chuckleheads bashing his visit, Adams realizes that a hyperpartisan, adversarial relationship between City Hall and the White House can only harm the interests of regular New Yorkers.Not least because the city gets billions in federal aid that most of the Republicans who run Congress would be happy to trim, even if the s...
