LA teacher who lost home in Eaton Fire slams self-serving narcissist Newsom for not being better prepared

A Los Angeles-area teacher whose home was destroyed by a devastating wildfire slammed California Gov.Gavin Newsom as a “self-serving narcissist” Friday for not being better prepared for the blaze.Epi Cruz, 53 — the father of three girls ages 8, 11 and 13 — watched his $800,000 home in Altadena burn to the ground as the Eaton Fire ripped through his neighborhood on Jan.

8, he told The Post.“My house was on fire when I pulled up,” he said.“The house behind me was burning, the houses to the left and right of me were burning,” he said.

“That’s when I realized there was nothing I could do.”His children lost “all their toys” and his wife’s wedding ring and grandmother’s priceless wedding dress were reduced to ash, he said.“My wife’s really torn up about that.It really, really affected her, you know, because it was something that she valued and her grandma passed away during COVID,” he said.“Everything melted.” Cruz is now fuming that Los Angeles County and the state of California weren’t better prepared to fight the wildfires.“Newsom’s horrible, I can’t stand the guy.

He’s a self-serving narcissist.There’s not a tax he doesn’t like,” he said.“Newsom is disconnected from the everyday Californian,” he said.

“Newsom didn’t know the fires were coming, no one did, but we should have been better prepared.”He didn’t say specifically what Newsom or other elected officials could have done specifically to prepare for the blazes.Cruz’s family was ultimately forced to stay with friends in nearby Long Beach and hope to rent an apartment in the area while they rebuild their home.“We’re open to an apartment, townhome — whatever,” he said.“I don’t need anything fancy.
