Life imitates art.A real-life massive gator wedged itself in a tiny storm drain in Florida Sunday — in a too-close-for-comfort imitation of the bloody movie “Alligator.”But unlike the 1980 B-movie, firefighters rescued the 10-foot-and-six-inch-long beast before it could eat any waitresses or kill the neighborhood’s mayor. It took half a dozen heroes to rip open the culvert and pull the beast to safety and out of the quiet Cape Coral neighborhood. The alligator was first spotted by a passerby early Sunday when they caught sight of the beast’s snout sticking out from the narrow drain opening.Firefighters used a winch on the department’s brush truck to lift the heavy culvert lid — allowing a Fish and Wildlife Commission trapper the chance to wrangle a hook around the gator’s deadly jaws. That’s when the firefighters hauled the carnivore out of the drain and loaded him into a pick-up truck. The gator was then transported to an alligator farm to “live out his life” and possibly be introduced to a breeding program, according to the fire department.“As a firefighter, you are never going to know what you are going to encounter but we are honored to help our Cape Coral community in anyway we can,” the department said on Facebook. It’s not clear how the gator accessed the narrow storm drain, but the sewer abuts the border of the Yucca Pens Unit State Wildlife Management Area....
