She couldn’t brush it off.A bride who wanted guests to help her paint a canvas at her wedding ceremony as a sentimental gift has been left mortified by their efforts.The Lofton, a luxury destination wedding venue in Southern Tennessee, posted a video of the art disaster to TikTok, where it quickly went viral.
“When the guests didn’t understand the assignment,” the venue wrote over the video.The clip showed a sign at the wedding reception that asked guests to “grab a brush and help us remember our wedding day with a painting created by our guests.”The bride and groom — who dubbed the activity a “stroke of love” — even provided examples on the bottom of the sign for guests to see what was expected of them, which was an abstract painting of blended colors.Paint colors provided for the wedding guests included earth tones, with shades of green, beige and brown.Rather than following directions, the guests painted what they wanted — including trees, hearts, squiggles, and animals.When the bride saw the canvas, she decided to “fix” it by completely painting over her guests’ artwork.She used the muted paints to brush strokes up and down on the canvas furiously, clearly unhappy with what her friends and family opted for.“Let’s be honest, guests never read! You can plan for your wedding all day long, leave tons of custom signs, and the guests are still going to do what they want,” the venue captioned the video.The video’s tone was meant to shame the invitees — but commenters didn’t think the guests were to blame.“Nothing more sentimental than covering your actual guests paintings so it matches your aesthetic,” one person snarked.“Genuinely, what did you expect?” another asked.“I actually gasped in horror when you painted over it,” a third admitted.However, the wedding venue’s social media crew insisted that the bride took the fine art fiasco in good humor.
