John Spytek is leaving the pirate ship to go to the Strip. The Raiders are expected to hire the longtime Buccaneers executive to be their new general manager, according to multiple reports on Wednesday.Spytek has ties to Vegas minority owner Tom Brady, having played alongside the former QB at Michigan decades before they went on to win a Super Bowl together in Tampa Bay — with Spytek as the assistant GM.He’s now the third full-time general manager in three seasons for the Raiders, who fired Tom Telesco after one year following a 4-13 season. The team also moved on from coach Antonio Pierce following the campaign, putting them in the market for an eighth head coach since 2012.The franchise has two winning seasons and two playoff appearances since losing the Super Bowl in 2003.With Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champ, playing a role in the football decisions in Vegas, the hope is Spytek can resurrect the Raiders to their late 1980s glory days. The 44-year-old comes to the team having worked his way up from a Lions operations intern in 2004 to scouting for the Eagles, Browns and Broncos before joining the Bucs in 2016.He inherits a team that has a franchise building block in tight end Brock Bowers but lacks a quarterback and running back entering the 2025 NFL Draft with the No.6 overall pick and free agency with a projected $108 million in cap space.First up is hiring a coach, with the team having already interviewed Pete Carroll, Ron Rivera, Robert Saleh and Vance Joseph, with Ben Johnson (Bears) and Aaron Glenn (Jets) off the market....
