Philadelphia medical jet crash was like a horror movie, shocked residents say

The pandemonium in Northeast Philadelphia following the harrowing medical jet plane crash Friday was “like a horror movie,” shocked locals told The Post Saturday.  Calvert Street resident Quincy Casby said he was jolted awake after the Learjet 55, which was carrying six people onboard, smashed into the ground near Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard, killing everyone on the flight while sending hunks of flaming metal into the streets and people’s homes. After running outside, Casby saw a neighbor’s home was on fire, while cars in the street burned and women screamed in utter terror. “It looked like the Hulk had ran through and had a whole fight,” Casby, 22, said.“I saw one car had blood spattered all over it.There was a woman sitting there in shock with her eyes wide open saying, ‘My God, my God, my God.’ She said she’d seen a dead body.“That’s when I left because it was like a horror movie.”Disturbing footage obtained by The Post revealed the bedlam that rocked the working-class community after the plane crashed near the Roosevelt Mall.Thick plumes of black smoke rose in the near distance from a wall of flames, while flaming chunks of debris, scattered metal scraps and cars abandoned at intersections blanketed Cottman Avenue. A cacophony of wailing police and firetruck sirens filled the air, along with confused hollers and car horns.“I don’t know what the f–k happened,” one bystander hollered.  “It was chaos around here,” real estate agent and restaurateur Fazal Shakoor, 39, said. “Everyone was running around the streets.” On Calvert Street, which had a gaping hole on its second floor, was struck by the plane’s landing gear, Shakoor said, while a plane wheel was still on the sidewalk Saturday. The doomed flight, which was operated by Mexico-based Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, plummeted less than a minute after taking off at 6:06 p.m.
