Engine Fire Prompts Evacuation of Houston Flight, Video Shows

A United Airlines flight from Houston to New York was evacuated on Sunday morning because of flames coming from an engine, video shows.Flight 1382 was about to depart George Bush Intercontinental Airport for LaGuardia Airport just after 8:30 a.m.when the crew “received an indication about one engine and halted the takeoff while still on the runway,” United said in a statement.A video circulating on social media showed smoke and flames coming out of one of the engines of the plane, an Airbus A319.All 104 passengers safely exited the plane to the runway using slides and stairs and were bused to a terminal, the airline said.

There were no reported injuries.The passengers were rescheduled for another flight on Sunday afternoon, the airline said.The Houston Fire Department said it did not respond to the fire.The Federal Aviation Administration said it was investigating.It was not the only aviation issue to surface on Sunday.The F.A.A.

said its primary system for sending real-time safety alerts to pilots was back online after being down for several hours.Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said late on Saturday that the alert system was experiencing a “temporary outage” and that the F.A.A.was using a backup system to send safety alerts.The episodes came just days after a passenger flight and an Army helicopter collided above the Potomac River near Washington, D.C., killing all 64 people on the plane and the three crew members of the helicopter.On Friday, a medical plane carrying a pediatric patient and five others crashed in Philadelphia, killing all on board.
