Islanders holding breath on seriousness of Mathew Barzal, Scott Mayfield injuries

SUNRISE, Fla.— The Islanders don’t yet know — or aren’t yet saying — how serious the injuries suffered by Mathew Barzal and Scott Mayfield on Saturday night are.But neither player was in the lineup for Sunday’s 6-3 defeat to the Panthers, and all the Islanders can do now is wait and hope that neither player joins a list of longer-term injuries that already includes Noah Dobson, Ryan Pulock, Marcus Hogberg and Semyon Varlamov.None of those four are expected back before the 4 Nations break.
