Jack Flaherty returns to Tigers on $35 million contract in MLB free agency

Jack Flaherty is back with the Tigers on a two-year, $35 million deal, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed. The contract includes an opt-out clause after the first year and he would receive $25 million in salary and bonus this upcoming season.If Flaherty were to opt-in for the 2026 season he would be owed $10 million with the possibility of that number jumping to $20 million if he makes 15 starts, according to the Detroit Free Press. Flaherty seemed to all but confirm the deal on social media by posting a GIF of himself in a Tigers uniform followed by a pair of pictures — one featuring rapper Tupac Shakur in a Red Wings jersey and the other featuring members of the Pistons celebrating. He made one more post, featuring himself in a No.9 Tigers jersey. Flaherty is back with the Tigers after he was traded at the deadline last year to the would-be World champion Dodgers.He’s coming off a season in he had a 3.17 combined ERA during his time with Detroit and Los Angeles, while registering 194 strikeouts and 38 walks in 162. Flaherty went 13-7 while splitting time between the Dodgers and Tigers. During the postseason, Flaherty made five starts for the Dodgers and posted a 7.36 ERA while the team ended up winning the World Series in five games over the Yankees. The Tigers found some luck of their own after he was traded away, making the playoffs for the first time in a decade and reaching the ALDS. This year will be Flaherty’s ninth in the MLB after he made his debut in 2017 with the Cardinals and played his first six full seasons in St.
