Mexicos president announces deal with Trump to pause tariffs for a month

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum claimed Monday that she reached a deal with President Trump to halt the imposition of 25% tariffs for one month in exchange for concessions on the border.Sheinbaum said that Mexico agreed to reinforce the US-Mexico border with 10,000 personnel from Mexico’s National Guard to help crack down on fentanyl dissemination into the US.Both Sheinbaum and Trump held a call Monday morning.The US will then work with Mexico to Prevent the trafficking of weapons into America’s southern neighbor.“We had a good conversation with President Trump with great respect for our relationship and sovereignty; we reached a series of agreements,” Sheinbaum said in a statement, per a translation.“Our teams will begin working today on two fronts: security and trade,” she added.
