Matthew McConaugheys awkward moment with Australian journalist resurfaces

Hollywood icon Matthew McConaughey’s incredibly awkward interview moment with an Australian journalist has gone viral.The resurfaced clip was posted online by Pedestrian TV editor Matt Galea, who was interviewing the star back in 2021 for the release of the movie “Sing 2.”In the short clip, an assistant can be heard asking Galea to introduce himself and what publication he is from before asking his questions.The now 32-year-old begins by cheerily saying “Hi Matt!” to which McConaughey’s eyes visibly widen.There were a few seconds of awkward silence before the star puts his finger up in the air and says “Matthew, please!” in order to correct him on his name.Little did Galea know, there was an unspoken rule to never call Matthew McConaughey Matt.In a 2017 interview with Jimmy Kimmel, the star explained that it has “always been Matthew” for a very good reason.“My mum was mad when I was called Matt,” he explained.“I was in kindergarten, and my mum was the teacher.

My buddy said ‘Hey Matt, want to go play on the monkey bars?’ I ran out and said yeah, halfway to the monkey bars I feel this hand on my shoulder and wham, I got slammed to the ground.I look up and it’s my mother in my face, and she’s like ‘what are you doing?’ I said, ‘I’m going to play on the monkey bars with John.’ She said, ‘who is?’ and I said ‘I am.’ She asked ‘what’s your name?’ and I said ‘Matthew.’ She told me ‘Don’t you ever answer to Matt again, I named you Matthew from the bible.’ I was like… yes ma’am.
