Tiger Woods is making his latest return to golf at a familiar place

Tiger Woods has committed to compete in his first official event since July, as he is set to make his 2025 PGA Tour debut next week at the Genesis Invitational.The $20 million signature event will take place at Torrey Pines in San Diego, a course that Woods has won at eight times in his career. There was doubt whether Woods would compete considering his back surgery in September and the fact that his mother, Kultida, died Tuesday. Nonetheless, Woods has committed to playing and will tee off looking to make a strong return.Woods’ legacy at Torrey Pines goes all the way back to 1999 when he won his first Farmers Insurance Open. He won the event at Torrey Pines once more in 2003 before going on a tear from 2005-08 in which he won the event five times in the span. In 2013, he grabbed his last Farmers Insurance Invitational victory to date, accounting for his seventh victory in the event.His eighth win at Torrey Pines came in the 2008 U.S.Open. Those eight PGA Tour wins match his own record for the most at one course, as Woods has also won eight times at Bay Hill and Firestone.While the event this time around isn’t the same as the one he’s used to winning at Torrey Pines, Woods will hope for the same success now 12 years removed from his last victory there.The Genesis Invitational is hosted by Woods and has moved to San Diego because of the wildfires that ravaged the Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles. The Riviera Country Club is the usual host course of the invitational and, although it was unaffected by the fires, Woods moved the event to support the Pacific Palisades community.In 2024, Woods played in just five events — missing the cut in three of them, placing 60th in one and withdrawing because of injury in the Genesis Invitational....
