Pickup truck drives over head of NY tourist, 71, on Florida beach while she tanned

Ouch!A New York woman vacationing on a Florida beach is recovering after a pickup truck “ran over her head” while she tanned in her chair.The tourist’s name has not been released, but the incident happened in Daytona Beach on Wednesday just before 3 p.m., the Volusia Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.The unsuspecting sunbather, 71, was hit by the vehicle as it was pulling out of a parking spot near the beach.The victim was “sitting in a beach chair behind a vehicle when a Chevrolet Colorado parked next to her pulled out of its parking spot,” reads the release.The female driver, 84, “made an immediate right turn toward the beach exit” but didn’t see the beachgoer before striking her “with the truck’s right rear tire, which then ran over her head.”Unaware that she had reversed into someone, the driver started to take off before being flagged down by witnesses, according to the release.The victim remains in the hospital but is in stable condition, according to police.Police have not named the driver, but noted she exhibited none of the telltale signs of impairment, and was released.The press release made no mention about the extent and severity of the woman’s injuries....
